Time to Head Home

A long road trip came to a close on Saturday night with a single game against Chaminade.

HONOLULU, Hawaii --- A loss on Saturday spelled a series split for Biola and Chaminade, as the Eagles wrapped up two weeks in Hawaii. The Silverswords (8-12, 6-10 PacWest) stormed ahead with a huge first inning, before finishing off an 11-5 game over BU (11-12, 8-8 PacWest).

Eight games over two weeks in Oahu resulted in four wins and four losses with a pair of splits against Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade.

The finale of the four-game series against Chaminade came on Saturday, after Biola swept the Friday doubleheader.

Noah Ruiz pulled off a great at bat to open the game, fouling off four pitches before doubling down the left field line. Ruiz showed off the speed and stole third, before scoring on a Sam Lisiak single for a 1-0 Biola lead.

Chaminade broke the game open in the bottom of the first with seven hits and a walk. Two doubles and a home run helped the Silverswords put together a seven-run frame.

Andrew Zittel locked it down over the next few innings on the mound for Biola. The big lefty put three-straight zeroes on the board from the second through the fourth.

On offense, the Eagles chipped away with runs in four-straight at bats. Unfortunately, each rally resulted in just one run, as the team could only pull within four.

Doubles were key for Biola with four two-base knocks on Saturday. Jonny Tewinkle, James Whitman, Tommy Kendlinger, and Ruiz grabbed an extra-base hit, while also impacting the scoreboard with an RBI or a run scored.

Ruiz shined in the leadoff spot, nabbing three hits in five at bats. Adiel Torres and Lisiak found success, as well, also posting multi-hit efforts.

The next contest for Biola baseball will be Friday, March 21 with a Cornerstone Cup matchup against Azusa Pacific beginning at 12:00 pm.
