Can’t Hold On

The Eagles split the day with Azusa Pacific on Friday after dropping game two.

LA MIRADA --- Biola (12-13, 9-9 PacWest) and Azusa Pacific (12-14, 10-10 PacWest) took turns putting together game-winning rallies at the plate on Friday. The visiting Cougars came away with game two with a sixth inning rally and a 8-6 final score.

Home runs hurt the Eagles, as APU scored six of its eight runs off of long balls. The visitors notched a pair of four-run frames to gain a lead in the third and sixth.

Biola was active on the base path in every inning but struck in the early going with strong hitting across the lineup.

The Eagles scored first in game two, tallying two in the second with two singles, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch.

Luke Caruso began the third with a boom, knocking a solo homer for his second of the year. The bats kept going, as the team loaded the bases with no outs. Back-to-back outs brought home two more runs for three total in the inning.

The fourth inning saw two singles open up the frame, which led to one run for BU and a 6-4 lead.

The four-spot in the eighth for APU flipped the script and Biola could not answer for the 8-6 final.

Adiel Torres extended his hitting streak to six, while bumping up his season batting average to .442 with a 2-4 game two.

The Eagles will battle APU again on Saturday in a doubleheader in Azusa at 1:00 pm.
