Eagles Stump Colorado Mesa

Biola Tennis dropped just one singles match between both teams on Saturday, routing Colorado Mesa at home.

LA MIRADA --- The recent rain did not slow the success of Biola Tennis, as the Eagles won comfortably on Saturday afternoon. The men's and women's squads dismantled the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa for a sweep at the Biola Tennis Center in La Mirada.

The Biola men grabbed their fifth win of the season, taking down the 29th-ranked squad in Colorado Mesa. Between the three doubles matches and the six singles matches, the Eagles dropped just three sets on the way to a 7-0 rout.

The tightest part of the match was doubles, as all three went to a tiebreaker. Despite the razor-thin margins, Patricio Larrera and Santino Serralonga created separation and left no doubt with a 7-0 tiebreaker on court number three. Thiago Canessa and Tanner Summers clinched the doubles point on court two, winning in a thrilling tiebreaker, 9-7.

The momentum carried through to the finish as all six singles went the way of Biola. Canessa and Flores Monteverde made quick work, each winning in straight sets, while not giving up more than one game in each set.

Serralonga provided the game-clinching victory from the No. 6 spot, taking his match, 6-3, 6-1.

Larrera, Jules Zanarelli, and Mateo Rivas all went the distance but got the job done in the third set to ensure the clean sweep.

On the women's side, BU continued its smooth sailing. The doubles point was much quicker and less thrilling, as Gaby Carvajal and Sophia Truong won 6-2 on court three and Kailee Mazzeo and Dafne Andres won 6-3 on court two.

The match was clinched in nearly the next hour with four straight-set wins for Biola singles. Isabella Chavarria took care of business from the No. 1 spot, going 6-2, 6-4. Isabelle Karam and Alexandria Mann matched those same set scores on the way to victories, while helping clinch the overall win for BU.

Andres grabbed her sixth singles win of 2025, winning 7-5 in both sets. Mazzeo provided the final singles win to complete the 6-1 win for Biola.

The Eagles will continue their homestand on Wednesday against Hawaii Hilo with the women opening at 1:00 pm and the men at 4:00 pm.
