Seeing It Through

There was no give from the Eagles, as the team toughed out a good win over Hawaii Hilo.

LA MIRADA --- Biola's men's tennis squad completed the Wednesday sweep of Hawaii Hilo, following a women's win earlier in the afternoon. The Eagles were in a tight battle with the Vulcans but pulled out a 6-1 victory, as the sun set in La Mirada.

Biola grabbed two of the three matches for the doubles point on Wednesday. Alejandro Flores Monteverde and Jules Zanarelli struck on court number one and Patricio Larrera and Santino Serralonga notched the win on court three for BU at 6-3.

It did not take long for Biola to add another point to the scoreboard. Mateo Rivas went to work from the No. 5 spot and wrapped up his match in under an hour. The lefty won in straight-sets with scores of 6-3, 6-0.

Hawaii Hilo kept things interesting, collecting the next point by taking court one in singles.

Biola followed it up with back-to-back singles victories to clinch the match. The third point went to Jules Zanarelli on court four. The freshman logged his fifth singles win of 2025, taking it in straight-sets at 6-2, 7-5. Thiago Canessa provided the clinching win with a tough win in set two.

From the No. 3 spot, Canessa stormed ahead with a 6-4 set one to take control. His foe battled back in the second set and took the lead early. Canessa fought through and forced a tiebreaker, before claiming the win in straight-sets.

Larrera notched a solid win on court number two, despite big swings in the match. A 6-1 set one favored Larrera but a 6-0 loss followed, forcing a decisive third set. Larrera did not let up and delivered a 6-4 winning set.

The final match was icing on the cake, as Santino Serrlonga landed a three-set win for BU.

The Eagles will be back in action against MSU Denver in another home match on Monday at 1:00 pm.
