Eagles Stumble Against Lions

The Biola Women’s basketball team fell to the Vanguard Lions in a game where BU kept fighting back, but resulted in defeat.

LA MIRADA — Vanguard entered Chase Gymnasium with an appealing 13-3 PacWest record (15-7 overall), but the Eagles (7-19,7-11) weren't going to let them slip away without putting up a fight. Biola worked to keep up with the Lions, but Vanguard ended up on top in a 62-54 final score.

Vanguard posted 16 points in both the first and second quarters while Biola put up a close 13 points in the first quarter and then 10 in the second. At half time, the Eagles trailed 23-32, but had hopes for a comeback out of the locker room.

Coming out of the half, the Eagles put up another 13 points while the Lions posted a game-high 18 points in the third quarter. Trailing 50-36, Biola made a run for it in the fourth quarter, netting 18 points, but Vanguard never cooled off and logged 12 more points sealing the 62-54 Lions win.

Laila Walker led the Eagles with 15 points against the Lions and netted three three-pointers. Defensively, she recorded two blocks and two steals. Kaylen Kamelamela and Jessa Thurman helped the Eagles' offensive push, putting up a combined 21 points and logging six rebounds each.

The Eagles are back at home next Saturday, February 22 when they host Westmont for Senior Night beginning at 5:30 pm.
