Kakigi Strikes in Hawai‘i Homecoming

Leah Kakigi netted the game-tying goal in the Biola women’s soccer team’s 1-1 draw against Chaminade University.

HONOLULU, Hawaii---Leah Kakigi netted the game-tying goal in the Biola women's soccer team's 1-1 draw against Chaminade University.

The Eagles were trailing the Silverswords 1-0 when Kakigi struck in the 36th minute. Kakigi, an O'ahu native, pounced on a passed ball from Briley Phelps and then fired in the game-tying goal.

"It was such a blessing to be able to play in front of my family who have sacrificed so much for me," stated Kakigi. "I'm super grateful to have a team that works so hard all game to make these moments special!"

Kakigi's goal was the first of her collegiate career and Phelps' assist was her fifth of the season.

Adrielle Salvador, Phelps and Peyton Nelson played the full 90 minutes against Chaminade.

Autum Monty started the match as the Eagles' keeper. The Graduate Student totaled 66 minutes in the goal, made one save in the 6th minute and allowed the Silverswords' goal in the 8th minute. Laura Brennan closed out the game in the goal, logging the final 23 minutes.

Biola will return home and prepare for their next match at home against Point Loma at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
