Eagles Score First in Tie to Sea Lions

The Biola women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Point Loma at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA---The Biola women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Point Loma at Al Barbour Field. 

The Eagles wasted no time when it came to taking the lead against the Sea Lions - who are receiving votes in the national rankings.

Briley Phelps, assisted by Riley Brumfield, opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. Phelps, the PacWest Conference's leading scorer, earned her seventh goal of the season. Brumfield earned her first assist of the season. 


Biola held onto their 1-0 lead until the 67th minute where Point Loma scored the game-tying goal. Following PLNU's equalizer, Biola's goalkeeper Autum Monty delivered two critical stops — the first in the 75th minute and the second in the 83rd — to maintain the 1-1 scoreline.

Monty totaled four saves against PLNU.

Taylor Bradshaw, Taylin Laws, Hayden Gehring, Cassidy Sims, Peyton Nelson, Monty, Brumfield, and Phelps played the full 90 against Point Loma.

Biola's record is now 3-1-8 overall and 0-0-5 in the PacWest Conference while Point Loma moved to 4-2-3 and 1-0-2 in the PacWest.

BU plays next on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 12 p.m. at Westmont College.
