A pitching duel got away from Biola in game two on Friday, as NNU logged the lone run of the contest.

LA MIRADA --- Opening day continued at Eagles Diamond with a seven inning game two between Biola and Northwest Nazarene. Defense was the name of the game with a 1-0 final score favoring the Nighthawks.

Luke Ballantyne drew the start for the Eagles and found his footing in his collegiate debut. The lefty delivered five frames, while giving up just three hits and one run. Ballantyne never gave up more than one hit in an inning and posted five strikeouts on the afternoon.

Through the sixth and seventh innings, Kyle Osterhage and Josh Eigenbrodt brought it home with two scoreless innings. Eigenbrodt came up clutch in the top of the sixth, getting the Eagles out of a bases-loaded jam. One pitch was all he needed, forcing a groundout to keep the team within one run of the visitors.

The BU offense tried to match the one score from NNU but came up short.

The team's best opportunities came in the first and third frames. Tommy Kendlinger led off the first inning with a walk and stole second to put a runner in scoring position with no outs. He tried to nab third base as well but was unsuccessful, as NNU kept the Eagles off the board.

In the third, Jacob Talbott stayed hot at the plate with an infield base hit. Kendlinger came to the plate next and laced a double to right field, putting Talbott at third with one out. A stellar defensive play from the Nighthawks stalled the BU rally, turning a double play on the sacrifice fly attempt by James Whitman.

Biola will look to bounce back on Saturday with another doubleheader against NNU beginning at 11:00 am.
