The Old and New

Biola Baseball alumni were recognized on Saturday before the 2025 team took the field against Northwest Nazarene.

LA MIRADA  --- The weekend series between Biola and Northwest Nazarene continued on Saturday with another doubleheader. The ceremonial first pitch was delivered by Biola Baseball alumni, kicking off the Athletics Alumni Day festivities across the Biola campus.

The first game of Saturday's doubleheader did not go the way of the Eagles, as NNU nabbed a 12-2 win.

Northwest Nazarene jumped in front early with a pair of infield hits in the first frame. One run in the opening frame was followed by four in the third for a 5-0 lead through three.

One swing of the bat put the Eagles on the board in the fourth inning. James Whitman led off the at bat for BU, launching the ball over the left field fence for the team's first run of the day and for his first hit of the season.

Going into the seventh frame, the Eagles trailed 6-1 but put together their best opportunity to score. BU put three-straight runners on base, including hits from Josh McAninch and Hunter Kaul, loading the bases with one out on the board. Nick Madole capitalized on the situation with a sacrifice fly, scoring McAninch with ease.

The Eagles were unable to push the offense further in the seventh and were kept off the scoreboard the rest of the way for a 12-2 final.

Noah Ruiz added a multi-hit game at the plate with a pair of singles in four at bats. The BU squad totaled nine hits in the game which trailed NNU by just two hits.

The Nighthawks defense was in midseason form, turning three double plays against BU, eliminating Eagle offensive threats.

Jacob Talbott offered a scoreless relief effort on Saturday, going 1.1 innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout.

Seven more Eagles saw their first action in a Biola uniform, including Adiel Torres, Hunter Kaul, Nick Madole, Jack O'Brien, Aidan Cube, Nick Brown, and Nathan Hernandez.

The fourth and final game of the weekend series is underway at Eagles Diamond with live stats here and live video here.
