Back to the Mainland

Biola wrapped up its trip to Hawaii on Saturday with bouts against No. 5 Hawaii and No. 10 Loyola Marymount.

HONOLULU, Hawaii --- Saturday saw back-to-back top-10 nationally ranked foes for the Eagles (0-5) in the Rainbow Invitational. Biola fell in game one against No. 5 Hawaii (4-1), 20-4, and fell against No. 10 Loyola Marymount (2-3), 18-8.

The Eagles struggled to get things going in the early going in either contest, being outscored 14-1 in the first quarter between the two matches.

Hawaii outshot the Eagles 32-25, while also nabbing seven more steals. However, Biola took a pair of sprint wins behind the speed of Ava LoBue.

LoBue added to her performance with a goal and two drawn exclusions in the opening game of the day. Stephanie Rodriguez offered up some offense, as well, netting two of the four goals against Hawaii.

After a slow start against the Lions in game two of the day, Biola fought back. The Eagles put together a 4-2 run between the 4:47 mark in the second quarter through the 6:32 mark in the third. Veralie Naranjo and Mia Mulhall each tallied two goals to provide a spark.

The duo kept up the pressure, as they each added another goal later in the second half. Naranjo and Mulhall totaled three goals apiece, combining for six of the team's eight goals against LMU. The two Eagles also added assists, Naranjo with two and Mulhall with one.

Biola will return back to California for its next game, facing La Verne on the road on Friday at 4:00 pm.
