BU Competes With Top-10 CSUSB

The Eagles continued their campaign at the Yotes Classic Showcase, taking on No. 8 CSU San Bernardino.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. --- BU volleyball maintained its challenging preseason schedule with a second-straight bout against a top-10 foe on Friday. The Eagles battled No. 8 CSU San Bernardino on its home court and fell in a close straight-sets fight.

Biola came out of the gates looking much cleaner in the first set on Friday. BU fought through early errors and a deficit to push the opening set to the brink. After plenty of back and forth play, Hannah Guzzetti gave the team a good chance to take the set with a kill to put the score at 24-23 in BU's favor. The Eagles were unable to capitalize on the set point opportunity and a pair of attack errors foiled the set for BU.

Attack errors continued to plague Biola throughout the afternoon. Despite landing more kills than the Yotes (35-32), the Eagles struggled to put their attacks in play with 23 errors and a team hitting percentage of .104.

In the second set, Kendall Vandertuig and Madison Moore piled in four kills apiece, as the match remained tightly knit. BU pulled ahead halfway through for its biggest lead of the day at 12-7. CSUSB climbed back, scoring six of the next seven points and evening the game at 13. The two teams tied at 15,16, and 17 but the Yotes pulled away for a 25-21 win in set two.

Set three saw similar action with nine ties and four lead changes through a 16-16 scoreline. CSUSB closed the door, winning eight-straight rallies and capping off the match with a 25-18 set three.

The BU attack was balanced with 35 kills coming from nine different players.

Bri Bellfi and Madison Moore each picked up double-digit digs in the back row with Bellfi recording 18 and Moore grabbing 11.

The Eagles will polish off the Yotes Classic Showcase on Saturday, facing No. 19 Seattle Pacific at 12:00 pm and Cal Poly Pomona at 5:00 pm.
