Putting It All Together

Biola Volleyball offered a complete game on Saturday, taking down No. 19 Seattle Pacific in match one of the afternoon.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. --- Biola (1-2) entered the winning column for the first time in 2024, taking down No. 19 Seattle Pacific (0-4) on Saturday. The third-straight top-25 bout for BU ended in four sets, as the Eagles began the weekend double feature with a victory.

The last day of the Yotes Classic Showcase saw the Eagles find success on defense, setting up a winning recipe for the team. The SPU attack could not get anything going, landing just 24 kills, while hitting -.016.

Biola's offense doubled up the Falcons on the attack, picking up 50 kills as a team in the win. Lexi Lambert orchestrated the attack with 37 assists and was helped by her two main hitters, Madison Moore and Kendall Vandertuig, who each tallied 13 kills.

The Eagles were not messing around at the jump and found a rhythm in the opening set. BU dominated in a 25-13 fashion, collecting 11 kills, while holding the Falcons to just four kills. Four aces aided the Biola cause on offense. The separation came early in the set with eight-straight points for BU, turning around a 5-2 deficit into a 10-5 lead.

The momentum remained with the BU squad, as the match transitioned to set number two. Kendall Vandertuig got things going early with three kills in the team's first five points of the set. Biola built a lead halfway through at 13-8 but clinched the set with a big run, winning the final five rallies for a 25-17 set win.

SPU avoided the sweep with a controlled set three. The Falcons never trailed in the game, winning 25-21. A feverish comeback almost came through for Biola, as it fended off four set-point chances from Seattle Pacific but the seven-point deficit was too much to overcome.

BU was determined to secure its first win of the season, taking control and not looking back in set four. Everyone got involved with eight Eagles recording a kill for a total of 17. The team hit .359 in the set with only three errors on 39 attempts. BU's biggest lead in the set came with the final point at 25-17.

The service line proved to be a strong spot for BU, as four Eagles offered an ace for nine total on the day. Bri Bellfi and Lambert led the way with three apiece.

Vandertuig matched volume with efficiency on the attack, posting 13 kills with a .250 hitting percentage.

Biola will be back in action later on Saturday, facing Cal Poly Pomona at 5:00 pm.
