Second Game Showcase

Game two was once again the game for the Eagles, as the BU squad took down No. 15 Westmont for a series split.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- For the second day in a row, Biola baseball split a doubleheader with the 15th-ranked Westmont Warriors (31-12-3, 22-5-1 PacWest). Both days ended on a positive note, as the Eagles (21-24-1, 11-16 PacWest) took game two. On Saturday, BU pulled in a 6-1 victory over WC to end the day.

Two days of competition over the weekend brought two wins over a top-15 squad for the Biola Eagles. Through the four game series, BU held a positive five-run scoring margin against the Warriors, 21-16.

Lucas Bixby led the charge on Saturday afternoon, dealing the opening five frames for the Eagles. The righty set the tone with nine-straight outs, following a leadoff single from the first batter faced.

Five innings pitched was met with only three hits allowed and one run given up. The winning effort was his second of the season. Ty Cowley delivered on the back end, securing the win with two scoreless innings.

The Biola offense took the lead right off the bat in the top of the first. Austin Carrillo worked his way around the base path after his leadoff single and touched home with the help of a WC error.

Andrew Lujan broke the game open in the third. The power hitting lefty pulled the ball to right field and over the fence, scoring himself, Carrillo and Duncan. The three-run bomb put the Eagles up four through three at-bats. Lujan continued his strong play in April, hitting .315 with four homers.

Westmont earned one back in the fifth but doubles from Jonathan Smith and Duncan helped add to Biola's lead for the 6-1 final score.

Carrillo got the job done at the top of the order, picking up three singles in four at bats. James Whitman continued his impressive day, nabbing a pair of hits in game two to add to his two home runs in game one.

BU will be back on the diamond on Friday on the road at No. 4 Point Loma at 12:00 pm.
