Eagles Erupt for Big Win

Biola bounced back on Tuesday, routing the Sunbirds in a 15-3 victory.

FRESNO, Calif. --- The Eagles (16-20-1) returned to the winning column on Tuesday in the front half of their non-conference doubleheader against Fresno Pacific (16-13). A 15-3 victory came on the road, as the BU squad polished off the originally scheduled nine-inning game in just seven innings.

The BU bats were on full display in game one, picking up 14 hits and 15 walks. The team batted .467 in the contest, including a double and a home run.

The fifth inning blew the game wide open for the Eagles, offensively. Six walks and two singles brought home five runs with just one out on the board. With the bases loaded, Sam Lisiak doubled and gave the Eagles a double-digit advantage. The three-RBI hit broke things open, as BU boasted a 13-2 lead in the top of the fifth.

Biola added three more frames with multiple runs on the way to 15 runs in the win. All nine original starters in the lineup picked up at least one base hit, including Austin Carrillo with three and Isaiah Leon, Lisiak, and AJ Ortiz with two apiece.

Ortiz left the yard in the third frame to bolster the BU lead. The BU third baseman launched a three-run shot for his second home run of 2024, giving the Eagles a 5-1 edge.

Carrillo offered a great day at the plate, going 3-3 with one walk and one RBI. The lefty also nabbed two bases for the fourth time this season.

On the mound, Andrew Zittel earned the win for Biola. The hurler worked through five frames with six hits allowed and one strikeout. The win marked his first of 2024 through nine appearances.

Carson Speegle closed out the contest with his sixth scoreless outing of the season. Two clean innings sealed the 15-3 final.

Game two is underway at FPU Diamond, as the early week series comes to a conclusion in Fresno.
