Monday Split

The back half of Monday’s doubleheader got away from the Eagles for a split on the day.

LA MIRADA --- The Eagles blasted two homers in game two on Monday but could not keep up with the Sunbirds. Fresno Pacific (19-19, 10-14 PacWest) was relentless on offense on the way to a 15-7 final margin, as Biola (19-22-1, 9-14 PacWest) dropped game two to split the doubleheader and the series.

The offense came early and often for the visitors from Fresno Pacific. FPU scored in every inning, including nine in the first three frames alone.

Despite the deficit, the Eagles never stopped fighting. The best rally for BU came in the bottom of the sixth, plating four with five base hits. Andrew Lujan picked up two RBIs with a single to right field, while AJ Ortiz led the inning off with a solo home run.

BU kept up the pressure in the seventh and final inning, loading the bases with one out. John Lanterman earned an RBI with a walk for the team's seventh run.

Ortiz put together a strong performance at the plate, reaching base four times to go along with his home run. A 3-for-3 outing came with two runs scored, two RBI, a walk, a double, and a homer, while extending his hitting streak to seven games.

Jonathan Kumai brought the power as well with his third long ball of the season. He added to his solo shot with a double for a 2-4 game at the dish.

Biola will be back in action on Friday, facing off against Westmont at home with the doubleheader starting at 12:00 pm.
