BU Separates Late on Senior Day

A 4-0 fourth quarter pushed the Eagles ahead for a senior day victory over CSU Monterey Bay.

LA MIRADA --- Biola Women's Water Polo (10-15, 4-1 WWPA) honored eight seniors on Friday afternoon at the Splash! Regional Aquatics Center. The team battled CSU Monterey Bay (4-20, 0-5 WWPA) in the pool and captured an 11-7 conference win.

The two teams traded blows throughout the contest, before settling at 7-7 tie entering the fourth quarter.

Next came Veralie Naranjo. Naranjo put the game away with three-unanswered goals in the final stanza. The first came a minute into the quarter to provide the go-ahead score. The junior continued to pile it on with another even strength goal at the 4:42 mark and then a power play tally with just over two minutes remaining.

Freshman Myah Ibarra added the final score of the contest for the 11-7 final. Over the last nearly nine minutes of the game, BU went on a 5-0 scoring run to cement the win.

Naranjo finished the day with four goals, one assist, and five steals. Rachel Spadt and Ibarra came through next in the scoring column, picking up two goals apiece.

Alicia Fregoso and Damaris Kientz split time in the cage on the way to the victory. Kientz grabbed three saves in eight minutes, while Fregoso nabbed eight saves in three quarters of work.

Six Eagles found the back of the net including Naranjo, Ibarra, Spadt, Mattie Herzog, Kaycie Bradshaw, and Lizzy Birch

Biola will be back in action on Saturday, facing Azusa Pacific on the road at 3:00 pm.
