Medina, Esparza, Milovich Earn All-PacWest Honors

Three Eagles headlined in the 2023-24 All-PacWest Teams, as Nathan Medina, Daniel Esparza, and Maximo Milovich all earned honors.

IRVINE, Calif. --- The PacWest offices announced the 2023-24 All-PacWest teams on Wednesday afternoon, naming three Eagles to the prestigious list. Nathan Medina was featured on the First Team, while Daniel Esparza landed in the All-PacWest Second Team and Maximo Milovich earned a All-PacWest Third Team nod.

Biola tied Point Loma, Hawaii Pacific, and Academy of Art with three All-PacWest selections. The BU men's basketball squad placed three student-athletes on the All-PacWest teams for the fourth-straight year.

Medina was the breakout star of the 2023-24 season, going from two starts as a freshman to 27 this season. The sharp shooter was Biola's top scorer and the fifth-highest scorer in the conference with 16.6 points per game. Medina reached 20 points in 10 games, including a four-game streak of 20-point performances.

Medina brought good range for the Eagles, sinking 56 triples with a 38.1 three-point field goal percentage, which ranked second in the PacWest. The highlight of the year for Medina came in a win over Hawaii Hilo, as he hit the game-winner as time expired.

Esparza delivered in year two at Biola with his second-straight second team all-conference accolade. The BU point guard was No. 11 in the PacWest for points per game with 14.1, while also distributing 69 assists to rate 12th. 

The junior guard was efficient on offense, netting 43.5 percent of his shots from the field to rate in the top 10 in the PacWest. He reached 20 points three times this season and put together 18-straight games with double-digit points. Esparza also offered a game-winner in the final moments, helping defeat Chaminade with a last-second go-ahead bucket.

Milovich repeated as a Third Team All-PacWest selection with the announcement on Wednesday. The fourth-year player was the conference leader for rebounds and rebounds per game at 276 and 9.9 per game. The high totals also put him at No. 14 in the nation. Milovich grabbed double-digit boards in 13 games and picked up six double-doubles this season. Four times Milovich was named PacWest Defender of the Week in the 2023-24 campaign.

On the offensive end, Milovich scored 9.4 points per game with a season-high of 22 points against Cal Poly Pomona. He made a huge jump in his long range shooting, sinking 16 triples for a 32.7 percentage from deep.

BU will be entering postseason play on Thursday, kicking off the PacWest Tournament with an opening round bout against Hawaii Hilo in San Diego, California.
