Facing the Test

Biola men’s basketball will open up the PacWest Championships on Thursday with a bout against Hawaii Hilo.

March 06, 2024

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- A tightly contested regular season should make for a thrilling PacWest Men's Basketball Tournament upcoming on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The Biola Eagles enter the conference championships as the No. 4 seed and will face fifth-seeded Hawaii Hilo in the opening round.

Biola will travel south for the tournament, as Point Loma hosts the three-day championships. Golden Gymnasium will be the setting for both the women's and men's tournaments with men's games in the afternoon and women's games in the evening.

The Eagles capped off the regular season with a 17-11 overall record and a 12-8 mark in PacWest play for fourth place. BU will battle the fifth place Vulcans, who also finished at 12-8 in the conference with a 18-11 overall record.

BU and UHH split the season series in the 2023-24 campaign with each team winning their matchup at home. Nathan Medina was the star in Biola's win, sinking the game-winning bucket at the buzzer for a 75-73 BU victory. In Hilo, Biola struggled to get the offense going and came up just short in a 58-54 loss at Hawaii Hilo.

This year's opening round matchup is a rematch from last season's PacWest Tournament opening round game. BU and UHH were the four and five seeds last year, as well, and it was the Eagles that advanced, winning by a margin of 79-51.

The tipoff for Thursday's opening round game for the Eagles is set for 2:45 pm in Golden Gymnasium.
