Pioneers Edge Eagles

Biola and CSU East Bay went back and forth throughout Friday’s contest but the Pioneers found the break in the final minutes.

HAYWARD, Calif. --- The margin was razor-thin in the conference contest between Biola (7-15, 1-1 WWPA) and CSU East Bay. The two teams traded blows for all 32 minutes of the match. CSUEB (10-10, 2-0 WWPA) was the team to pull away at the end, defeating Biola by a 14-13 final score.

Neither team gained a lead of more than two goals through the entirety of the game on Friday. Seven ties and four lead changes defined a day that sat in balance from start to finish.

With four minutes to go in the game, Rachel Spadt knotted the game at 12. The crunch time would determine the game and it was CSUEB to strike first. A goal at 2:18 moved the Pioneers ahead and put the pressure on Biola. Over a minute of scoreless action added to the tension but the hosting Pioneers put the game away with another score with 40 seconds on the clock.

Mattie Herzog cashed in on the next Eagles possession but it was too little too late, as the 14-13 scoreline held for the remaining 18 seconds.

The BU offense was spread around, as six different players picked up a pair of goals. Six more Eagles added an assist, while the team outshot the Pioneers, 41-23.

One goal in the first quarter for Veralie Narnajo extended her streak of games with at least one goal to 11.

The Eagles will look to bounce back in a road matchup at CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
