Too Little Too Late

Biola ended the game with bases loaded, dropping game two to Chaminade, 6-4.

LA MIRADA --- The BU baseball squad (14-14-1, 6-8 PacWest) was one swing away on Friday, nearly pulling off a fantastic comeback. It was Chaminade (12-18, 5-10 PacWest) to hold on though, as the Silverswords took game two, 6-4, for a Friday split.

Just the opposite of game one, the Silverswords were the team to get things going early in the contest. Three hits through the first three frames, helped the visitors to two runs, before a two-out two-RBI hit opened up a 4-0 CUH lead in the top of the fourth.

The bottom of the fourth brought resilience from the Eagles. Isaiah Leon got on base with a single and Wyatt Duncan walked for two runners on with no outs.

Back-to-back balls set up James Whitman to swing away and he connected with a big hack. The sophomore smashed a three-run home run to left field, bringing the BU squad within one at 4-3. The long ball was his ninth this season, which leads the PacWest.

Once again, Chaminade found a clutch hit. For the second time in the game, CUH collected two more runs on a two-out single, boosting their edge to 6-3.

Biola entered the seventh needing three runs to tie or four runs to win. An out opened the seventh inning at bat for BU but Jonathan Kumai and Andrew Lujan posted back-to-back singles to bring the tying run to the plate.

The Eagles were down to their last out but Austin Carillo delivered with a single to keep things moving. The hit brought home Kumai and put Lujan on third. Carillo stole second and a walk followed, loading the bases for BU. With the tying run on second and the go-ahead run on first, the Eagles could not complete the comeback and a strikeout ended the game.

Leon continued to roll at the plate, logging his fourth multi-hit game in his last six contests. The outfielder bumped up his season batting average to .328 with five hits in seven at bats through both games on Friday.

Biola and Chaminade will battle in another doubleheader on Saturday at Eagles Diamond, beginning at 12:00 pm.
