Sweeping Singles

The men’s tennis team lost the doubles point, but swept singles in their 6-1 triumph at the Biola Tennis Center.

LA MIRADA—The Biola men's tennis team lost the doubles point, but swept singles in their 6-1 triumph at the Biola Tennis Center.

The Eagles got off to a shaky start after losing the doubles point, but would make up for it by sweeping the Mustangs in singles.

Nationally-ranked No. 14 Nico Ramirez recorded Biola's first singles on the first court where he defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-0.

Adrian Solorzano picked up BU's next win on the second court where he beat his opponent 6-2, 6-2.

Alejandro Flores Monteverde ended up clinching the match for Biola with his victory on the fourth court. The Eagles had an advantage entering the match as the sixth court was won by default because Western New Mexico didn't have enough players to compete on all sixth courts.

Flores Monteverde defeated WNMU's Buratti 6-1, 7-5 which put Biola up 4-1.

Patrico Larrea logged BU's fifth win by outlasting WNMU's Brendan Locke in a three-set battle. The Junior won his first set 6-2 but dropped his second 6-3. Larrea held his composure and went on to win the tiebreaker 10-5.

Biola's last victory of the night was by Thiago Canessa on the fifth court. Canessa defeated his opponent 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 to close the match up strong for the Eagles.

Biola plays next on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 3 p.m. against MSU Denver.
