Rising Above the Challenge

The men’s tennis team rose above all the challenges they faced to come up on top with a 7-0 shutout victory against MSU Denver.

LA MIRADA—The Biola men's tennis team rose above all the challenges they faced to come up on top with a 7-0 shutout victory against MSU Denver.

Biola quickly won the doubles point with victories on the first and second courts. Nico Ramírez and Adrian Solorzano recorded BU's first win on the first court 6-3 and then Patricio Larrea and Santino Serrallonga won 6-2 on the second court to clinch the point.

Thiago Canessa and Alejandro Flores Monteverde led 5-2 on the third court when the point was clinched.

Singles ended up being a challenge as they lasted for six hours due to the competitive nature of the matches combined with the two rain delays.

Serrallonga won Biola's first singles match 6-1, 6-0 on the fifth court.

Nationally-ranked No. 14 Ramirez won the next match 6-2, 7-5 over nationally-ranked No. 33 Juho Kantola.

After a break in the action due to two rain delays, Solorzano defeated his opponent on the second court 6-7, 6-1, 6-3.

Larrea finished next, recording Biola's fourth singles' win on the the fourth court where he beat MSUD's Alessandro Munoz 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Callen Hein came through next on the fifth court where he beat his opponent 4-6, 6-2 and then 7-2 in the third-set tiebreak.

Flores Monteverde closed the match out strong for BU, outlasting his opponent through a three-set battle that included two sets that went to tiebreaks.

Flores Monteverde lost his first set in the tiebreak but came back to win the second in the tiebreak. He eventually won the third set 7-5.

Biola plays next on Monday, Mar. 18 against Hawaii Hilo at 3:30pm.
