Tuesday Shootout

Biola and CSU Dominguez Hills hit the scoreboard with double-digit runs in a midweek non-conference bout.

DOMINGUEZ HILLS, Calif. --- A break in conference play saw Biola (13-9-1) travel to Dominguez Hills (7-15) to take on the Toros on Tuesday afternoon. The two teams ran up the score for a combined 27 runs. CSU Dominguez Hills was able to seal the victory in the final frame, defeating the Eagles, 14-13.

The BU bats did not waste time getting things going on Tuesday. Two of the first three batters reached base, opening a scoring opportunity for the cleanup hitter James Whitman. The designated hitter blasted his seventh home run of the season, bringing three runs home in the top of the first.

Two hits in the fourth and two hits in the fifth were all the Eagles needed to keep the runs flowing. Biola put up back-to-back innings with one run.

The sixth and seventh innings saw more action for the Biola offense with patience at the plate. Five walks and three hit-by-pitches gave way to four runs between the two frames with the help of just one RBI hit from Wyatt Duncan.

Going into the ninth and final frame, BU faced a 13-9 deficit. Jonathan Smith led off the at bat with a single and was followed by a walk from Austin Carillo. The next two batters were retired leaving four runs needed with one out to go. A hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, before fielding errors opened the door. A pair of fielding mishaps scored three and put the tying run at third base. Sam Lisiak locked the game at 13 with a single, forcing a bottom of the ninth.

CSUDH walked it off with a homer in the first at bat of the ninth, ending the game at 14-13.

The reigning PacWest Player of the Week, Wyatt Duncan, continued his strong play at the plate. For the fourth-straight game, the first baseman logged multiple hits, going 2-4 on Tuesday.

Luke Caruso also extended his hitting streak with three hits in five at bats. Caruso boasted his fifth-consecutive game with a hit and third-straight multi-hit effort.

Biola will be back in action on Friday at Azusa Pacific with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm.
