Naranjo Scores Five but Eagles Fade Late

No. 23 Biola battled evenly with No. 16 Pacific for 17 minutes of game time but the Tigers pulled away in the second half.

STANFORD, Calif. --- Veralie Naranjo was the offense on Sunday, helping the BU squad with five goals against No. 16 Pacific. The burst was not enough as the Eagles fell to the Tigers, 14-7.

The Eagles took on their sixth ranked opponent in their first seven games of the season with the concluding match of the Stanford Invitational.

Despite three scores from Pacific to open the game, Biola did not back down. Marija Mijuskovic ended the run before the end of the first quarter, putting the Eagles on the board for a 3-1 deficit.

Naranjo notched her first goal to start the second quarter and the game was afoot. The teams went back and forth in the second quarter, as Naranjo scored all three goals for Biola.

After the halftime break, the Eagles came out on fire. Naranjo found the back of the cage in the team's first possession and Rachel Spadt came next with a power play score on the team's next opportunity.

The two quick tallies locked the game at 5-5 with 15 minutes left in the contest.

Pacific responded though and went on a tear. The Tigers held BU scoreless for the next 10 minutes of game action and opened up a 12-5 advantage.

Naranjo scored her fourth and fifth goals in the fourth quarter but the team could not muster a comeback.

Assists came from everywhere as five Eagles logged a helper. Ava LoBue paced the squad with a pair of assists and was joined by Maria Roldan Gonzalez, Lily Wolfe, Lizzy Birch, and Myah Ibarra with one assist each.

Roldan Gonzalez added three steals to her day along with two drawn exclusions.

Biola will be back in action at home on Wednesday, February 14 to take on CSU Fullerton.
