Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Ethan McGarvey, Sports Information Director

Success in Singles

Biola men’s tennis got the job done with four-straight singles wins to take down Fresno Pacific.

LA MIRADA --- A plethora of new faces shined in the BU lineup to kick off the 2024 season. The team battled Fresno Pacific at home and took home the victory by a 5-2 scoreline.

The edge for the Eagles came in singles play. After falling in doubles, BU got to work across the six courts to take the win in its season opener.

Santino Serrallonga was the quickest to finish, winning on court six in just over an hour. The junior transfer grabbed a straight-sets win, while giving up a total of just two games to his opponent.

From there the next two dominoes fell fairly quickly. Straight-set sweeps came through for Nico Ramirez on court one and Thiago Canessa within minutes of each other to open up a 3-1 BU lead. Canessa secured the victory in the No. 5 spot and eked out a win in the second set, 7-5.

The remaining three singles matches went the distance with the overall match still hanging in balance.

True freshman Alejandro Flores Monteverde fell in his first set but was not deterred. From the No. 4 spot, he mustered a great comeback, forcing a third set with a 6-1 win in set two. The final set was back and forth but Flores Monteverde claimed the victory 7-5 to clinch for the Eagles.

FPU took the win on court three but Adrian Solorzano kept pushing for BU on court two. Solorzano battled in a three-set bout and picked up the fifth point for Biola with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win.

BU saw plenty of debuts on Saturday, as Ramirez, Flores Monteverde, Canessa, Serralonga, and Patricio Larrea all saw their first action as Biola Eagles.

The BU squad will return to action at Westmont on Friday at 2:00 pm.
