Just Out of Reach

The women’s basketball team battled back from behind but Fresno Pacific would be just out of reach in the Eagles’ 54-47 loss.

FRESNO, Calif.---The Biola women's basketball team battled back from behind but Fresno Pacific would be just out of reach in the Eagles' 54-47 loss.

Fresno Pacific got off to a strong start, out-scoring the Eagles 28-20 in the first half. 

Biola regrouped during the halftime break and came back ready to go in the third quarter. The Eagles were chasing FPU by eight after the second quarter and worked their way back from behind to tie the game up 34-34 with 49 seconds remaining. However, Fresno Pacific managed to pull ahead in the final seconds of the quarter, scoring four additional points off of free throws (38-34). 

The Eagles executed their best offensive showing in the third quarter where they out-scored FPU 14-10. Eight of Biola's 14 points were recorded from free throws. Jessa Thurman led the Eagles' scoring effort with six points, four of which were from made free throws. Camden Miller had four points, half of which were from good free throws. Laila Walker and Kaylen Kamelamela also contributed two points.

BU kept it close in the final frame, but the Sunbirds would remain just out of reach for the Eagles who eventually lost 54-47.

Sammie Henley was the Eagles' leading scorer with 15 points. Kamelamela and Thurman were Biola's next-best shooters who both scored eight points.

Miller led BU on the boards, collecting a career-high of 10.

Biola fell 1-8 overall and 1-1 in the PacWest Conference while Fresno Pacific improved 5-4 and 1-1.

Next up for the Eagles is Point Loma on Wednesday, December 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Golden Gymnasium.
