Guzzetti Shines at Home

Hannah Guzzetti cashed in 10 kills on Saturday, in a hard-fought battle with No. 7 Chaminade.

LA MIRADA --- A second-straight matchup against an undefeated team in conference play placed the BU volleyball squad against the seventh-ranked Chaminade Silverswords (22-4, 15-0 PacWest). BU (6-18, 4-12 PacWest) put the fight to CUH, taking set two but ultimately falling in four sets. Hannah Guzzetti starred for Biola with 10 kills from the middle.

Saturday's match featured 36 kills from Biola with six different Eagles getting in on the action. Guzzetti was the leader in the clubhouse, netting 10 for her career-best mark. The freshman gave up just one attack error on 17 swings for a .529 hitting percentage.

Lexi Lambert orchestrated the attack, as BU's setter on Saturday. She offered up 29 assists in the contest, while also adding four kills.

Errors plagued the Eagles to start Saturday's matchup with 11 errors in set one. Chaminade took advantage, despite 11 kills from BU for a 25-21 finish.

The BU squad bounced back in the second set, although they fell behind early. A 6-2 deficit did not faze the Eagles, who fought back for a 10-10 tie with help from CUH errors. The set remained tight through a 22-22 scoreline, before Biola took over. The final three points belonged to the Eagles for a 25-22 set win.

Sets three and four got away from Biola, as the Silverswords built strong leads to clinch the match victory.

Biola accumulated seven aces on Saturday and was led by Kendall Vandertuig with three.

Bri Bellfi held down the back row with 19 digs, as the team's libero. Simi Kapustova did well on defense at the net, picking up two solo blocks and two block assists.

The Eagles will be back in action for Senior Night on Friday, taking on Hawaii Hilo at 7:00 pm inside Chase Gymnasium.
