LA MIRADA---Maya Duchesne joined the Biola Women's Basketball staff as the lead assistant to first year head coach Mike Simonson. 

"I could not be happier to start my early coaching career at an institution such as Biola," exclaimed Duchesne. "The Lord opens opportunities when we least expect it, and this opportunity was a no brainer for me. I am so thankful to have Coach Simo and his wife, Katie, in my life as they have shown such belief in me as a young coach and more importantly, a disciple of Christ. This program has already become so special to me and we are anticipating a really exciting 2024-25 season!"

Duchesne came to Biola from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees. Duchesne played collegiate basketball at Northwest from 2019-24 and worked there as the Sports Information Director. 

Duchesne earned her bachelor's degree in digital marketing and master's in athletic leadership.

When Simonson was asked about the addition of Duchesne to his coaching staff, he explained, "Maya is someone who has coaching in her DNA. I have known her for years, as I recruited her while in high school, watched her play college nearby at Northwest and thus seen her character at work."

Simonson continued, "Probably my favorite characteristic in Maya is her desire to mentor and disciple the next generation. She is someone who is dedicated to the Lord and really cares about our team's development as people. It has been fun to watch her connect and pour into our players' lives."

"Maya already is an outstanding young coach and I am excited to see develop in this next season at Biola," concluded Simonson.
