BU Falls to No.23 Sea Lions

The Biola women’s soccer team fell to nationally-ranked No. 23 Point Loma in a hard-fought match on Saturday.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The Biola women's soccer team fell to nationally-ranked No. 23 Point Loma in a hard-fought match on Saturday.

As Biola faced off against nationally ranked Point Loma at PLNU Soccer Field, the game felt like an uphill battle from the start. Point Loma entered with an impressive record of 11-2-1, while Biola, at 4-8-4, was hungry to make a statement.

The first half began with both teams testing each other. Biola's goalkeeper, Autum Monty, showed resilience, making early saves, yet Point Loma's offensive pressure was relentless. By the 29th minute, Bethany Arabe broke through Biola's defenses, scoring the first goal by seizing a loose ball at the top of the box. Biola fought hard to regain control, but the hosts continued to press. Just before halftime, Point Loma extended their lead as Zoe Crockett finished a well-placed cross, putting Biola down 0-2.

In the second half, Biola rallied, showing determination. The team earned multiple corner kicks, and Briley Phelps and Peyton Nelson pushed forward with attempts to break through Point Loma's solid defense. Despite Biola's efforts, Point Loma's Grace Nelson found an opportunity in the 87th minute, sealing a 3-0 win.

Biola may not have come out on top, but their grit on the field, challenging a nationally ranked team, left a lasting mark.

Biola's defense starred Monty and Laura Brennan, who each recorded two saves on the night, keeping the Sea Lions from leaving further damage.

The Eagles will head up to Menlo College on Thursday, Nov. 7th at 3 p.m. to face the Oaks for the first time in conference play.
