Biola tackled the new WWPA competition on Saturday, defeating UC Merced.

MERCED, Calif. --- The Eagles continued their road trip on Saturday, picking up victories in consecutive days. BU (8-19) faced UC Merced (2-21) in the afternoon contest, and the Eagles got the upper hand, 13-8.

John Grasso was the key cog in Saturday's win for Biola. The center defender was a monster on the attack with five goals to lead the team. The five scores was the most in a single game for his four-year career at Biola.

Grasso's second goal kept the Eagles in the game, knotting the match at four going into the halftime break. Three power play goals helped the BU offense to score twice in each of the first two quarters.

After the halftime break, the Bobcats struck first for a 5-4 advantage. The deficit did not slow the Eagles, who cooked an impressive rally to the finish.

Over the next 10 and half minutes of game time, Biola strung together a run of eight-straight goals. Six different Eagles scored in the rally, as BU took control with a 12-5 lead. Grasso tallied three scores in the long BU run.

UC Merced earned a few goals back in the final minutes but Biola held it together for a 13-8 win.

Biola was active on defense, nabbing 13 steals, including three from Grasso and Mitchell Carpenter.

Nolan Rapp instigated the offense with seven points in the win. The senior compiled two goals and five assists to push the BU attack forward. He did it all on Saturday with one steal and one field block as well.

Christian Trapp found the back of the net for the seventh time this season and was joined by Gavin McKenzie, Grasso, Rapp, Nick Murray, Kyle Seifen, and Jake Burns with at least one in the scoring column.

Carpenter picked up the win in the cage for BU, logging all 32 minutes and stopping 12 Bobcat shot attempts.

The Eagles will round out their road trip at Concordia on Friday at 7:00 pm.
