Biola Shines Under the Lights

The men’s water polo team shined Friday night under the lights, winning a gritty battle against Fresno Pacific 12-11.

LA MIRADA---The Biola men's water polo team shined Friday night under the lights, winning a gritty battle against Fresno Pacific 12-11.

John Grasso and Adam LaVoy led Biola's offensive effort against the Sunbirds, both recording hat tricks. Nick Murray was another offensive standout who collected two goals. Nolan Rapp and Caleb Hernandez also had key offensive performances for BU, helping orchestrate offensive opportunities for their teammates. Rapp led his team with four steals and Hernandez recorded a team-high of four assists.

Every period was a fight to the finish. In the first three quarters the game was tied up eight times and no team led by more than a goal. The first period ended in a tie and the second and third periods ended with Biola leading by a goal.

Kyle Seifen scored the go-ahead goal at the end of the second (6-5) and Grasso scored Biola's leading goal to end the third (9-8).

The biggest lead of the match would be taken in the fourth period, twice. First when Hernandez scored at 6:02 (10-8) and again by Grasso at 5:26 (11-9). However, Biola's advantage wasn't enough to intimidate Fresno Pacific who responded with back-to-back goals to tie up the game (11-11).

The Eagles stuck to the game plan and with 18 seconds remaining, LaVoy would come up big for his team, netting the game-winner which secured their 12-11 victory.

Mitchell Carpenter led Biola's defense as their veteran goalkeeper. The Senior made seven saves and had four steals against FPU.

BU improved 9-20 overall while FPU fell 4-17. Biola's senior game is tomorrow Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. against UC Merced.
