Split Trip

The Eagles took one of two on their trip to Hawaii, falling to Hawaii Hilo on Saturday night.

HILO, Hawaii --- A quick trip across the Pacific and the Eagles (4-12, 2-6 PacWest) rounded out their roadstand in Hawaii on Saturday. A close-knit start to the match between Biola and Hawaii Hilo (12-6, 7-1 PacWest) seemed to spell a thriller but it was the Vulcans who took control and closed out the win in three sets.

Payton Tully shined from the right side, offering up 10 kills in the three sets. The lefty was extremely effective with only two errors and a .444 hitting percentage.

Tully started off the match hot at the net, contributing five kills in the opening set. The kills kept the Eagles hanging around, despite an early deficit. BU fell behind by seven at 18-11 in the first set but never gave in. A five-point swing for Biola brought the visitors right back into it off the back of Ashlyn Beebe's service. Biola came within one point of the Vulcans at 21–20 and 24-23 but could not find that final push to complete the comeback.

Following the hard-fought set one, UHH grabbed set two without a hitch, leading the whole way to point number 25.

In the third and final set the two teams traded blows, going back and forth all the way to 13-13. The two teams tied at every number leading up to 13 but it was the hosting Vulcans to first create separation. A 5-0 run gave UHH the advantage, which would carry to the 25-17 finish.

Bri Bellfi snatched up 16 digs on the night, reaching double-digit digs for the 15th time this season through 16 total matches.

Lexi Lambert dished out just over half of the assists from Saturday's contest, helping on 17 of the team's 32 kills.

Biola will be back in Chase Gym for its next bout, taking on Point Loma on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
