Three-Headed Attack Claims Victory

The Eagles grabbed a three-set win on Thursday night, defeating Hawaii Pacific on the road.

HONOLULU, Hawaii --- One, two, three, Biola got the job done for its second conference win of 2024. The Eagles (4-11, 2-5 PacWest) took down the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific (1-12, 1-6 PacWest) behind an attack led by Kendall Vandertuig, Payton Tully, and Madison Moore.

The 25-20, 25-23, 25-14 win on Thursday marked the team's second 3-0 sweep of the season.

A balanced offense proved dominant, as Hannah Hanson and Lexi Lambert distributed the ball well. Three Eagles cooked in the kills category, as Vandertuig, Tully, and Moore each landed at least 10 on the night.

The recipe for victory was just right, as the Eagles methodically went through Thursday's contest. The big three each got their fair share each set, as the trio recorded at least three kills in each individual set.

Moore tied with Tully with 11 kills in the match and both attackers came in at or above a .290 hitting percentage. The senior veteran Vandertuig was not far behind with 10 kills, locking in her double-digit performance with three of the final four Biola kills.

Hanson offered up 19 assists, while Lambert came through with 14 of her own. The duo set up the attack well, helping the Eagles to their second-most efficient offensive showing so far this season at a .238 hitting percentage for the team.

The Eagles gained an edge through total kills, outdoing the hosting Sharks, 41-34. Errors also favored BU, as a combined 28 errors plagued HPU, including eight unforced service errors.

Biola saw two players reach double figures in digs, as Bri Bellfi and Ashlyn Beebe covered the back row, effectively. Bellfi gathered 14 digs to pace the team, while Beebe nabbed 12.

BU will now hop over to the Big Island for a matchup against Hawaii Hilo set for Saturday at 10:00 pm PST (7:00 pm HT).
