Eagles Fall Short to Warriors

Despite a great effort, the women’s soccer team ended up falling short to Westmont College in a 2-1 loss at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA---Despite a great effort, the Biola women's soccer team ended up falling short to Westmont College in a 2-1 loss at Al Barbour Field.

The Warriors (3-1-3 overall, 1-0 PacWest) gained an early lead over the Eagles (1-7-1, 0-2) with the game's first goal in the 13th minute.

Biola answered back minutes later, thanks to a good corner kick by Kierstin Havens teamed with a well positioned Peyton Nelson. Havens managed to find Nelson in the box who quickly picked up the corner kick and sent in the game-tying goal in the 15th minute.

Neither team would score again in the first half, but not because of a lack of effort. Defenses prevailed in the offensive standstill. Autum Monty made four saves for Biola while facing six shots and the Warrior's keeper also made a save from three shots.

Coming back from the halftime break, Westmont scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 50th minute.

The Eagles had limited scoring opportunities for the remainder of the half. Monty was able to keep the match close, making two more saves with the help of BU's defensive line.

Briley Phelps led the Eagles in shots, totaling six of Biola's nine. Havens supplied two and Nelson contributed one which was also the Eagles lone goal in their 2-1 loss.

Biola plays next on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. against Point Loma at Al Barbour Field.
