Make it Six Straight

A string of six games in three days ended the way it started, as the Eagles swept the competition once again.

CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Biola's winning ways continued on Saturday with a pair of victories at the Gary Troyer Tournament. The day opened at the Axelrood Aquatics Center at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, as the Eagles defeated UC Merced, 20-8, and finished with BU triumphing over Mount St. Mary's, 17-13.

The 2-0 Saturday extended the Biola winning streak to six. The Eagles hit their stride at the right time, carrying a strong run into conference play, which begins next week.

On Saturday, the Eagles tallied 20 goals in a win over UC Merced. The offense was active early and often with seven goals in the opening frame. All seven came before any scoring from the opposition for a 7-0 Biola lead. Roman Saroyan and Joshua Halopoff each tallied a pair of goals in the period to help put BU ahead.

An even second period kept the game in neutral but the Eagles made another jump in the third with a 6-1 advantage. The scores were coming from everywhere, as a well-balanced attack propelled the Eagles. All six goals came from different players on the way to the team's fourth double-digit win of the year. In the game 13 Eagles scored at least once and seven grabbed multiple goals.

Biola seemed to keep its unstoppable rhythm when it returned to the pool in a matchup against Mount St. Mary's. The BU squad posted 11 goals in the first half and built a five goal lead by the half.

Maxwell Osborn and Saroyan started hot and combined for the first four BU goals. Osborn kept the motor going and tallied five goals in the first half alone. Nick Murray offered a pair of scores of his own to bolster the BU edge.

The Mount were not done though, bouncing back after the halftime break. Five unanswered goals erased the Biola advantage, as the clock ticked past seven minutes to go in the contest.

Despite the turn of the tide, Biola did not back off. Murray ended the 10 minute drought for the BU offense, giving the Eagles the lead back at 12-11. Nolan Rapp added back-to-back goals to make the first of two three-goal rallies for BU, as the team secured the 17-13 victory.

Mitchell Carpenter pulled together 19 saves in the win over Mount St. Mary's for his second highest total of 2023.

Five Eagles carried the offensive load with Rapp (2), Saroyan (3), Halopoff (3), Murray (4), and Osborn (5) all scoring multiple goals. The group also aided each other with three assists from Rapp, and two from Osborn and Saryoyan.

The Eagles will be back in action at SPLASH! on Wednesday for their WWPA opener against Concordia at 1:00 pm.
