Eagles Fall Short to #14 Golden Eagles

The women’s soccer team put up a good fight against No. 14 CUI, but ended up falling 1-0.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola women's soccer team put up a good fight against nationally-ranked No. 14  Concordia University Irvine, but ended up falling 1-0 in their conference opener.

Biola (1-6-1 overall, 0-1 PacWest Conference) got off to a shaky start, giving up a penalty kick to CUI in the 6th minute (7-1,1-0) which resulted in an early goal for Concordia.

The Golden Eagles continued to keep the Biola Eagles on defense for the majority of the first half, but would be denied by BU in every attempt. Throughout the remainder of the first half, Autum Monty faced six shots and made two saves with a third save being credited to Biola's defense.

The Eagles made some adjustments in the second half which allowed them to have some offensive opportunities. Biola totaled three shots on-goal, but none would find the net. Kierstin Havens, Ella Grannis, and Briley Phelps each had a shot on-goal against the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles.

Monty made four more saves in the second half, which made her total six in the night. Her fourth save was an intercepted penalty kick in the 86th minute.

Despite an admirable effort by Biola, time would run out and CUI would end up with the 1-0 victory at home.

The Eagles play next on Saturday, Sep. 30 at 7 p.m. against Westmont at Al Barbour Field.
