Staying the Course

Biola maintained its winning streak on Saturday, defeating Dominican in straight sets.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. --- A volatile Friday night match did not shake the Eagles, who came into Saturday's road bout with a steady hand. Biola (9-3, 5-0 PacWest) completed the clean sweep over the Dominican Penguins (0-12, 0-5 PacWest) to remain perfect in PacWest play.

The Eagles nabbed their sixth-consecutive win on Saturday. Dating back to September 9, Biola has won 18 of its last 21 sets played, collecting four sweeps and five PacWest wins.

On Saturday, the BU squad picked up its second sweep of the Penguins in the six game winning streak. Efficiency was key for a team that posted 38 kills and only eight attack errors. As a team, Biola logged a .288 hitting percentage, while never hitting below .200 in any of the three sets. Four Eagles tallied at least six kills, including Dominique Kirton (9), Kendall Vandertuig (8), Abigail Copeland (6), and Meredith Fisher (6).

BU picked up seven service aces and did not allow a single one from Dominican and compiled nine total blocks in the afternoon.

Set One: Big swings characterized an evenly played set but the Eagles broke away late. The game was tight at 20-19 but the Eagles shut the door with five-straight points to take set number one. The BU squad nabbed 15 kills with a .302 hitting percentage.

Set Two: Including its final run in set one, Biola won nine-consecutive rallies, as the team opened up a 4-0 lead to start set two. BU led the whole way, maintaining a three-point lead throughout the majority of the set but once again the Eagles closed it out strong. A 18-15 lead ballooned into a 24-15 lead for BU, as the visitors claimed another set. The BU block came through big with five total blocks, while forcing nine DUC attack errors.

Set Three: Biola left no doubt with another dominant performance. Copeland logged five kills on six swings, while the team grabbed 12 kills on a .375 hitting percentage. BU won seven of the last nine points for the 11-point victory.

Biola will return home for its next contest, taking on Concordia on Thursday at 7:00pm.
