Not Enough Time

The Eagles battled Chico State on Saturday morning through the final buzzer at home.

LA MIRADA --- The narrow margin defeats continued to plague Biola with a one score loss on Saturday. The Eagles (0-5-1) matched up well against Chico St (4-2) but were outdueled in the second half for a 3-2 finish, marking the team's four-straight defeat by one goal.

Both teams found nice looks at the goal with 10 shots from Chico St and nine shots from Biola. Six were on frame from the visitors, while four were on goal from the Eagles.

The Wildcats impacted the scoreboard first in the 40th minute. A cross from Baron made it to the far post and a header from Robertson gave the Wildcats the lead in the first half.

Before the halftime break commenced, the Eagles responded. Faith Shaw and Peyton Nelson teamed up to find an opportunity on the left side of the box. Nelson made the run forward and sank a left-footed shot inside the right post for her second goal of the year.

Chico State were the aggressors out of the half, attacking the Biola defense. The visitors created separation with a pair of goals in a six -minute span.

The Eagles refused to quit and played through the final buzzer. In the final minute, BU cut the deficit to one with a score from Ella Grannis. The freshman picked up her first collegiate goal with help from Briley Phelps on the assist.

The 47 seconds left on the clock was not enough time for the Eagles to find an equalizer, leading to the 3-2 final score.

Biola will hit the road next week for its final non-conference matchup, facing CSU San Marcos on Wednesday at 12:30 pm.
