Biola Sweeps the Day on Easter Weekend

BU headed to Point Loma and showed out as they wrapped up the weekend with a 3-1 win to split the weekend series.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Biola (14-20, 8-8 PacWest) faced Point Loma (21-11, 9-7 PacWest) in game two of Saturday's doubleheader and came out on top with a 3-1 win. Tyler White was the star with the swing to win the game, hitting a three-run homer in the Saturday sweep.

Pitching highlighted the day, as the Eagles took down No. 24 PLNU for the second time of the afternoon. Through the seven-inning affair, each team only scored in one-of-seven plate appearances. The Eagles got the better end of their half-inning of runs, thanks to the bat of Tyler White

In the top of the third, James Whitman worked his way on by way of a PLNU mishap. The error was followed up by a single from Evan Rowe, putting two runners on and one out on the board.

Point Loma got around the next batter and looked for the inning ending out in Tyler White. The senior did not hesitate, swinging at the first pitch he saw. The bat connected and the ball sailed over the fence for three huge runs. The homer marked the fifth for White this season and his second in consecutive games.

The crew of BU hurlers made sure to get the job done on their end. Bobby Brown drew the start and was fantastic. The righty cruised through three innings, giving up one hit and only facing 10 batters. 4.2 scoreless innings helped Brown to his second win of the season.

Jake Anderson stepped up in the sixth to get the Eagles out of a pinch. Runners stood on first and second, as the reliever entered the contest. Anderson responded with three-straight strikeouts to retire the Sea Lions and set up the next BU pitcher, Oscar Serratos.

The top of the seventh came and Serratos took to the rubber to close it out. Serratos worked through the heart of the PLNU batting order but delivered for the save.

Hits were hard to come by for both teams, as BU and PLNU combined for eight hits through the seven innings.

Biola baseball will return home for its next contest, facing Azusa Pacific on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
