Rough Start

After Concordia scored seven runs in the first two innings, Biola matched the Golden Eagles at three runs each after the third inning.

LA MIRADA --- After a split doubleheader on Friday, Biola (10-13 PacWest, 16-25 Overall) and Concordia (11-14 PacWest, 16-22 Overall) faced off on Saturday at Eagles Diamond for another doubleheader. Concordia started off hot which was a key factor to their 10-3 victory over the Eagles.

The Golden Eagles opened up the game with a double, triple, and two singles from the first four batters of their lineup to bring in two runs in the top of the first inning. Concordia continued to put the bat to the ball as they brought another two runners across the plate to take an early 4-0 lead.

Concordia came back out for the second inning and their bats were still hot. The Golden Eagles hit three doubles and a home run to bring in another three runs and extend their lead to 7-0 after two innings.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles were trailing 7-0 but Noah Ruiz was ready to get BU on the board. Ruiz hit a lead-off home run to dead center field. With two outs and runners on the corners, Andrew Lujan found himself crossing the plate to cut the deficit to five after four innings (7-2).

CUI headed into the top of the sixth inning with a comfortable 7-2 lead, but a single, hit-by-pitch, and triple opened up the game to give them an even more comfortable lead, 9-2.

With the Eagles down by seven runs after six innings, things were starting to get tight and if they were in the hunt for a win, they needed to get a rally going. AJ Ortiz led off the seventh inning with a double and ended up scoring off of a sacrifice fly by Lujan to give the Eagles their third run of the game.

The final two innings were scoreless. BU got runners on base and had small rallies, but unfortunately, they were unable to bring anymore runs in, resulting in a 10-3 loss in game one.

Ortiz, Lujan and Oscar Serratos each had two hits in five at-bats which contributed to the Eagles 10 hits in game one on Saturday.

The Eagles are set to take on the Golden Eagles in game two as they look for a better outcome around 4:00 pm.
