Shutout for Senior Day

The men’s tennis team shutout Ottawa Arizona 7-0 on senior day.

LA MIRADA, Calif.---The Biola men's tennis team shutout Ottawa Arizona 7-0 on senior day.

The Eagles celebrated four seniors' last match at the Biola Tennis Center including: Alexey Prokopchuk, Antonio Rosales Varona, Sebastian Herrera and Alex Sedeno.

Biola started off strong by securing the doubles point with two dominant wins. Adrian Solorzano and Rosales Varona took down their opponents on the first court 6-1 and then Ashton Heynes and Alessandro Cadena clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win on the third court. 

The Eagles continued their success in singles where they won on all six courts. Sedeno recorded the Eagles first singles win over OUAZ's Noah Koeroessy  6-3, 6-0. Prokopchuk came through next with a first-court win over OUAZ's Goor Adiv 6-2, 6-2.

Cadena finished third, clinching the match for Biola on the sixth court with a 6-3, 6-2  win over OUAZ's Saul Bautista.


The second court pulled through next for Biola with Herrera winning 6-0, 6-4 over OUAZ's Gianmarco Pitotti. Heynes followed shortly after with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on the fifth court against OUAZ's Viktor Setzer.

The longest battle was the third court where Cordova was eventually triumphant over OUAZ's Sean Milshteen. Cordova won his first set in a tiebreak 77-64 and then fell in his second 4-6. The two were then sent to a 10-point tiebreak where Cordova pulled ahead 10-8. 

The Eagles will head into the 2023 PacWest Tennis Championships on a two-game winning streak, 12-6 overall.
