Ortiz Keeps Streak in Loss

A seventh inning homer from Ortiz was all of the scoring for Biola in a game two loss at APU.

AZUSA, Calif. --- A pitching duel favored RV Azusa Pacific (26-17, 18-10 PacWest) on Saturday, as the Eagles (15-23, 9-11 PacWest) fell in game two of the weekend doubleheader. Biola plated two in the final inning in a 4-2 loss, behind AJ Ortiz's fourth-straight game with a homer.

Neither team scored or recorded a hit through three innings of game two. Brandon McClean worked around two walks at the start of the game to retire nine-consecutive batters. The righty included a pair of strikeouts in each frame as well, while totalling seven in four innings of work.

The first break came for the Cougars in the fourth frame. The host squad strung together three hits, which included a long ball for a 3-0 edge. APU then took advantage of two walks in the fifth to add an insurance run with an RBI single.

In the seventh frame, Oscar Serratos tallied the first Biola hit with a single up the middle. The hit was the first base runner since the leadoff walk in the first inning by Serratos. 18-straight outs separated the two on-base opportunities.

Ortiz capitalized on the runner on base and left the yard for the fourth-straight game. The junior picked up his 11th home run on the season and put the first runs of the game on the board for Biola.

The big hit cut the deficit in half but a two-run deficit persisted with two outs in the seventh, as the Eagles could not overcome in the 4-2 final.

Biola will be back in action on the road at Concordia with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 pm on Friday.
