Make it Six

The Eagles nabbed their sixth-straight win on Saturday, opening the day by defeating McKendree.

CLAREMONT, Calif. --- The Claremont Convergence continued for Biola at the Axelrod Pool on Saturday. The morning matchup featured BU (9-9) against McKendree (8-7), which was a rematch from the third-place game in the WWPA Championships last year. Just like before, Biola came out on top with a 16-13 victory on Saturday.

The triumph marked the team's sixth-consecutive win dating back to February 22. In five of those contests, BU led by five or less at the final buzzer.

Through three wins in the weekend, the Eagles have relied on their successes in the opening 16 minutes of each game. Combined between the three games, Biola led its opponents at halftime by 25.

The boost on Saturday came in the waning minutes of the first and for the majority of the second quarter. BU ended the first with a pair of scores to take a 4-3 lead. Veralie Naranjo came next, sinking four-straight goals for BU. The run for the sophomore helped the Eagles to a 6-0 stretch and a five-goal advantage.

McKendree responded coming out of the halftime break, coming within one of the Eagles through six minutes of the third period. Rachel Spadt cut their rally short with a goal, bringing the BU lead back to two possessions.

The Bearcats stayed within range heading into the fourth with the game still up for grabs. The two teams traded scores and were separated by two with five minutes on the clock.

Biola shut the door with a three goal rally in the fourth. Maria Roldan Gonzalez scored on a powerplay, before Kourtney Pyle tacked on two goals to give BU a lead that would stick. The Eagles would go on to polish off a 16-13 victory.

Naranjo continued her hot streak, tacking on six goals in the game. Over the last two games, Naranjo has combined for 13 goals.

Marija Mijuskovic and Spadt were active on offense with two assists each. Spadt also added two of her own goals to the mix, following Pyle who totaled four.

Biola is already back in the pool, facing Long Island in its final game at the Claremont Convergence.
