The Biola men’s tennis team avenged their previous 5-2 loss against ITA’s nationally-ranked No. 29 Azusa Pacific with a 5-2 win at the Biola Tennis Center.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola men's tennis team prevailed against ITA's nationally-ranked No. 29 Azusa Pacific at the Biola Tennis Center. The No. 46 Eagles avenged their previous 5-2 loss at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex with a 5-2 win at home. 

"I'm really proud of the guys," exclaimed head coach David Goodman. "They have been working really hard which definitely showed today. APU is a really good team and they're tough to beat. This win speaks to our team's good energy and hard work ethic."

This time around, the Eagles won the crucial doubles point. Biola won 6-2 on courts 1 and 2 to take home the first point of the match, 1-0. 

Adrian Solorzano and Antonio Rosales Varona won on the first court and Sebastian Herrera and Callen Hein recorded the next win on the second court to boost BU ahead. 

Azusa Pacific bounced back with wins on courts 2 and 4. Herrera lost 1-6, 2-6 to APU's Marco Nikoliuk and then Antonio Rosales Varona fell 2-6, 64-77 to APU's Elias Emilio Walter. 

Solorzano tied up the match 2-2 with his victory on the third court. Solorzano outlasted APU's Miha Velicki with a tiebreak win in the first set (77-66) and then won this second set 7-5. 

Alexey Prokopchuk came through next with a big win for the Eagles. Prokopchuk won his first set 6-1 and outplayed APU's Leyton Bohren in a grueling second set. Prokopchuk came back from behind in the tiebreak to win the second set 79-67 which put BU ahead 3-2. 

That left courts 5 and 6 in action with Biola tied on each. The fifth court would be the next to finish. Isaac Cordova lost his first set 4-6 and came back to win his next two 6-1, 6-4 which clinched the match 4-2 for the Eagles. 
 
Callen Hein was the last Eagle in action, battling it out on court 6 with APU's Vili Bonev. Hein split his first two sets with Bonev. Hein won his first set 6-4 and then lost the second 4-6, but would rally back to win the deciding third set 6-4 which resulted in Biola's 5-2 win.

The Eagles' win improves Biola's standing 60-45 in the Cornerstone Cup rivalry series.

The Eagles (9-4 overall) play next on Tuesday, Mar. 28 at the PLNU Tennis Courts. The Sea Lions and Eagles face off at 5 p.m.
