Great Day for BU

The runs were flowing on Saturday, as the Eagles secured the doubleheader sweep of ART U.

LA MIRADA --- Momentum from a game one victory did not fade with an explosive first inning. Biola (10-17, 4-6 PacWest) jumped out to a big lead and held on for a 12-2 win in game two, finishing off the Saturday sweep of Academy of Art (10-14, 3-7 PacWest).

"I'm proud of the team for how they finished both games today," said head coach Jesse Rodgers. "It was great to play error-free all day and take advantage of our opportunities."

One run for the visitors in the top of the first did not deter the Eagles in game two. Without much resistance, BU worked its way through the lineup and piled on six runs in nine at bats. Two home runs highlighted the inning, as Wyatt Duncan and Sam Lisiak left the yard with two-run and three-run shots, respectively.

A five-run third inning blew the game wide open. A two-out rally led to all five scores with RBI hits from Jonathan Smith, Tyler White and Duncan. A triple came in from Duncan, scoring White and AJ Ortiz for a 11-1 Biola advantage.

The BU defense matched the offensive efficiency with three-straight zeroes on the scoreboard and five total in the seven-inning game.

Bobby Brown drew the start and worked quickly with 57 pitches in four innings. The righty picked up the win, allowing one run and three hits with two strikeouts. The last three innings were shared amongst Blake Wentz, Andrew Zittel and Chris McClean, who combined for one run and three hits allowed and four strikeouts.

Lisiak had himself a game with four hits in four at bats. Every hit came with solid contact for three singles and a home run.

Noah Ruiz added his second multi-hit game of the day, going two for four at the plate in game two. The freshman tallied his second career homer, hitting a solo shot in the fourth frame.

Biola and ART U will continue their series on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 am.
