Eagles Lose in Overtime

The women’s basketball team lost a hard fought battle in overtime (64-61) against Point Loma.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--- The Biola Women's Basketball team lost a hard fought battle to Point Loma in overtime. The Eagles (10-13 overall, 8-7 PacWest) gave it their all, but ended up losing 64-61 to the Sea Lions (13-12, 11-6 PacWest) in the final minutes.

Point Loma started out strong, building up a 22-15 lead after the first quarter. Biola came back in the second quarter, out-scoring Point Loma 15-12 but it wasn't enough to take the advantage and the Sea Lions kept a 34-30 lead heading into halftime.

The Eagles kept their momentum going in the third and fourth quarters where they pulled together to out-score the Sea Lions in both frames.

Point Loma stretched their lead to seven points when they scored the first basket of the third (37-30). Biola answered back with the next two baskets by Jordan Rabe and Aysia Johnson which cut the Sea Lions lead to three points (37-34).

Biola worked hard to keep Point Loma within their reach and narrowed it to a one-point game when Jaci Bolden landed two good free throws to send Biola into the fourth down by just one point, 43-42.

Johnson snatched the lead for Biola in the opening minutes of fourth, 44-43. The Eagles and Sea Lions would go on to trade the lead back-and-forth, tying up the game three times before a basket by Laila Walker would tie the game up again (52-52) and force PLNU into overtime.

Point Loma scored first in overtime, benefiting off of a Biola foul which put them up 54-52. PLNU came back with the next basket which grew their lead 56-52.

Eleni Cabrera scored next, cutting down their deficit to two points. A PLNU foul on Walker cut it down to one point when she downed a good free throw (56-55).

With a minute remaining, Point Loma drained a three-pointer that put them up 59-55. The Eagles fouled the Sea Lions with 47 seconds remaining and PLNU cashed in on two good free throws (61-55).

Biola continued to fight and Walker found the net with 28 seconds remaining to bring their score up to 61-57.

BU strategically fouled Point Loma again, with 26 seconds remaining, which grew PLNU's lead 62-57. Two more fouls were committed, the first by Point Loma and the second by Biola in an effort to extend the game.

Walker sent in the final basket of the game, a three-pointer with three seconds remaining, that would make the score 64-61 in Point Loma's favor.
