February 28, 2023

IRVINE, Calif. --- The BU men's basketball squad received three All-PacWest nods on Tuesday afternoon. The conference voted and placed one Eagle on all three teams, as Alex Wright, Daniel Esparza and Maximo Milovich each earned the distinguished recognition.

The Eagles capped off their regular season on Saturday with a 17-10 overall record and a 12-8 mark in PacWest play. Those 12 wins helped the team claim fifth place in the conference with a chance to play fourth-seeded Hawai'i Hilo in the opening round of the tournament.

BU veteran Alex Wright received his third All-PacWest selection on Tuesday. The graduate cemented his place in program history, scoring his 1,600th point this season and moving into fifth-place for scoring in a career.

Wright was a First Team All-PacWest selection and earned his keep with 15.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in the 2022-23 campaign. The guard always seemed to deliver in crunch time, including a 30-point performance against Dominican on February 2. Wright was an all-around talent, ranking in the top 10 in the conference for scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, three point field goal percentage, three pointers, and minutes played.

The Riverside, California native added more academic success to his resume earlier this year, nabbing a CSC Academic All-District award.

Esparza made a name for himself in his first year at Biola. The sophomore transferred in from Cal Poly and immediately made an impact on the offensive end for the Eagles. He went on to lead the team in points in the 2022-23 season, averaging 15.9 points per game.

The 6-2 guard reached 20 points six times this year and hit double figures in scoring in 23 contests. Esparza ranked seventh in the league in scoring, while also contributing at least three assists in 12 games. Three-pointers came pretty regularly from the long range shooter, who hit 52 triples at a 33.8 percent clip.

The All-PacWest Third Team featured the inside presence for the Eagles in Milovich. The 6-8 forward was a dual threat grabbing rebounds and points on his way to eight double-doubles. Milovich was relentless on the offensive glass, ranking third in the nation for offensive rebounds per game at 4.23 and 26th in the nation in rebounds per game at 9.0.

Through the year, Milovich tallied three PacWest Defender of the Week awards to go along with 23 steals and 5 blocks. He also found success on offense passing the ball with 58 assists to rank 17th in the PacWest.

The Eagles open up the PacWest Tournament on Thursday in Hawai'i, facing the Vulcans at 9:15 PT.
