Game One Not in Favor of the Eagles

The Eagles let a small lead slip away in a 6-3 loss against HPU.

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i --- Biola (4-9) looked to start off their trip with a win on Friday, but fell short in late innings of game one. Despite the 6-3 loss to Hawai'i Pacific (4-4), the Eagles found success at the back end of the lineup and put together great innings on the mound.

HPU used their home field to their advantage as they got started early. The Sharks pitched a quick top of the first inning and capped the inning with three consecutive singles to put two runs on the board.

After a non-desirable first inning, Eagles' home run leader, Wyatt Duncan was not about to waste any time. Duncan hit a lead-off home run to left field to get things going for BU. A few batters later, Sam Lisak wanted to keep things going, as he sent out another solo shot to tie the game at two.

A quiet two innings flew by before the Eagles warmed up again. Bobby Brown led-off the fifth inning with a double, getting in scoring position. A single from AJ Ortiz brought Brown to the plate, giving Biola its first lead of the afternoon at 3-2.

The bottom of the sixth inning came around and things were looking good until the Sharks got a productive two-out rally started. A single followed by a hit-by-pitch put runners on base for the Sharks' catcher who cleared the bases with a three-run home run to left field for a 5-3 lead.

The Sharks still had some magic left in them as they brought in another run on an error, extending their lead to 6-3 after seven innings.

Biola was unable to add any more runs to their name, leaving them with a 6-3 loss in game one of the doubleheader against Hawaii Pacific.

Lucas Bixby went six innings only giving up three earned runs and a walk. Bixby also struck out four HPU batters.

Gilbert Lopez was excellent in relief of Bixby on the mound. Lopez struck out four of the six batters he faced in game one, as he posted a pair of scoreless frames.

Three Eagles tallied multiple hits in Friday's first contest. Brown went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Lisiak and Ortiz went 2-for-4.

Biola will face the Sharks for game two of Friday's doubleheader around 7 p.m. P.T.
