Eagles Outlast Warriors in Victory

The women’s basketball team outlasted Westmont College in their 50-49 victory at Murchison Gymnasium.

SANTA BARBARA—The Biola women's basketball team outlasted Westmont College in their 50-49 victory at Murchison Gymnasium.

The Eagles (5-5 overall, 1-1 PacWest) trailed behind the Warriors by one point at the end of the first quarter (10-9), but rallied back with a 20-point second quarter to take a comfortable 29-14 lead heading into halftime.

Jordan Rabe led the second-quarter scoring with seven points and she was followed by Kaylen Kamelamela (6), Trasara Alexander (3) and Laila Walker and Jaycee Goldsmith (2).

Westmont came out of halftime ready to fight and managed to make it close. The Warriors out-scored Biola in the last two quarters but it wasn't enough to overcome BU who maintained consistent scoring.

Westmont ended up trimming the Eagles' lead to nine (40-31) by the end of the third quarter and went on a six-point run in the fourth that left them chasing Biola by one with milliseconds left to go.

The Eagles held off the Warriors until the game clock expired which resulted in their 50-49 victory.

Rabe led Biola's scoring with 12 points, followed by Alyssa Kubo (10) and Kamelamela (8).

"I think this game was a great team win, especially after our tough loss on Wednesday," reflected Kubo.

Kubo continued, "Even though the game was not perfect it was definitely a step in the right direction. I'm super happy that we were able to stay tough and together to pull out the win. I am excited for our team to take what we learned today and apply it to future games."

Jessa Thurman led her team in rebounds, collecting nine. Six of which were defensive and three were offensive.

Biola plays next at home on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m. against Academy of Art.
