The women’s basketball team opened up conference play at home on Wednesday night, falling 76-61 to CUI.

LA MIRADA— The Biola women's basketball team opened up conference play at home on Wednesday night, falling 76-61 to Concordia University Irvine.

The Golden Eagles (3-4, 1-0 PacWest) took charge in the first quarter where they out-scored Biola (4-5, 0-1) 14-11. The Biola Eagles faced some adversity, but showed resilience throughout the quarter. Concordia received a free throw due to an administrative technical foul that allowed them to begin the game with a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles continued to score the first basket of the quarter, expanded their lead to 3-0. Biola quickly responded with a beyond-the-arc basket by Natasa Radovic which tied up the game (3-3). However, CUI would come right back with a matching three that put them ahead, 6-3.

Biola fought to tie it up in the next possession, thanks again to a three by Radovic (6-6). However Concordia came back again, taking the lead and holding it for the remainder of the quarter (14-11).

The Eagles started the second quarter strong, Jaya Michel scored the first basket of the frame which put BU within one (14-13). CUI answered back with a three-pointer which extended their lead to 17-13.

Biola chipped away and would gain their first lead of the game at 6:36 from a good layup by Jessa Thurman (18-17), but CUI would come back again, taking back the lead and holding it for the remainder of the game.

CUI grew their lead by as much as 13 points in the third quarter, but BU would cut down their lead to seven with 35 seconds on the game clock (54-47).

Concordia opened up the scoring again in the fourth, but Biola responded with a 12-point rally that brought them back within four points with four minutes left to play (63-59). CUI followed up with a rally of their own which gave them an 11-point lead (70-59).

Despite an admirable effort, the Eagles were unable to make a comeback in the final minutes which allowed CUI to head home with a 76-61 victory.
